NORTH ATTLEBORO — The Richards Memorial Library was closed Sunday afternoon after an electrical problem caused smoke.
The smoke was reported from the basement of the downtown library off North Washington Street about 12:15 p.m.
An electrical smell was also detected.
Firefighters traced the problem to a battery power strip that is used for the computers, a fire official said.
Smoke was ventilated, the electrical inspector was called to the building, and afternoon events at the library were cancelled.
